About Us and Our Values
Always Ear was founded by Audiologists Abigail Ankers and Johanna Carter in June 2019 to provide an audiological service specialising in both wax removal and hearing aids to the Fylde Coast and surrounding area.
Our clinic on Woodlands Road in Ansdell, Lytham Saint Annes has been open since 2020 and we have expanded our services still offering home visits if needed. From fairly humble beginnings the practice has grown and we have expanded our hours and also now have our wonderful Terri - who is our Receptionist and admin support.
Abigail and Johanna have been qualified audiologists since the 1990's and have seen much change in both the technology available and also the knowledge that we have around ears.
Initially in the 1990's both Abi and Johanna trained and worked as part of the NHS at Victoria Hospital Blackpool and the surrounding Fylde Coast.
We understand that it is often older people who need audiological services such as ours with further knowledge that these people may be more vulnerable.
Both of us have experienced our own grandparent’s vulnerabilities being taken advantage of by unscrupulous people. This experience has further confirmed our beliefs that it important that everyone is treated compassionately with genuine care; aiming for excellence and honesty in everything we do. Therefore, treating every individual in an ethical, empathic and friendly professional manner.
We pride ourselves in our caring and compassionate manner and will spend additional time with each person as needed.

Johanna Carter
Audiologist, Hearing Aid Dispenser and Tinnitus Specialist
Abigail is a highly qualified Senior Audiologist and Hearing Aid Dispenser with dual registration from RCCP and HCPC.
She has extensive experience in the NHS when she began her Audiology career at Blackpool Victoria Hospital in 1996 covering the Fylde Coast.
With her expertise in hearing and auditory rehabilitation, Abi is passionate about helping people enhance and transform their lives by improving their hearing.
Abi has a specialist interest in brain health, dementia and adults with additional needs
Outside of Audiology, Abi enjoys spending time with her family and dog in the Lake District. Where her hobbies include sailing, walking and bird watching.
Additionally, Abi loves to entertain and has a large repertoire of recipes she creates. She also enjoys IT and exploring new apps and applying this knowledge.
Johanna is a highly qualified Senior Audiologist and Hearing Aid Dispenser with dual registration from RCCP and HCPC.
She has extensive experience in the NHS when she began her career at Blackpool Victoria Hospital in 1994.
She has worked in the third sector and private sector. Additionally qualified as a teacher, NLP Master Practitioner and Coach, MBit Coach and Tinnitus Adviser. She has lived with tinnitus throughout her life.
With her expertise in hearing, tinnitus and holistic wellbeing, Johanna is passionate about helping people enhance and transform their lives. Finding the difference that makes the difference.
Johanna has a specialist interest in
tinnitus, brain health and dementia.
Outside of Audiology, Johanna enjoys walking her dog especially along the beach. She also enjoys family time and reading a good book or several. With a passion for life long learning Johanna is also a qualified teacher and NLP Master Practioner.
Terri Matthew
Reception and Admin Support
Terri enjoys gardening, socialising, listening to live music and going to carnivals. She is also an active member of a community group.
Her happiest times are when spending time with her family, friends and especially with her grandchildren.
